Measuring the Yb Atomic Beam Flux

On Monday, December 5th the SADiCS team led by Kristen Parzuchowski performed an improved Yb flux measurement. Several improvements were implemented including covering the measurement chamber with a non-reflective black foil to reduce stray light and conducting a more precise scan over wavelengths to find the resonance wavelength of Yb. This measurement took the noise floor of 〜270℃ from our previous measurement and lowered it to 〜240℃.

This plot shows a much closer agreement between experimental data and simulated atomic flux when compared to the previous measurement. Currently, work is being done to develop a more sophisticated simulation and to achieve a high repeatability for Yb flux measurements. This work is crucial for a proper calibration of our atomic beam source.
