KITP Program: Thorium-229 Nuclear Clocks

JTS attended the a rapid response workshop on Thorium-229 nuclear clocks at KITP from April 27 to May 8. It was impressive to see that rapid progress in the community since the publication of the first laser excitations of Th-229 in CaF2 by the PTB/TU-Wien Groups and LISAF @ UCLA about 2 years ago.

We are hoping to work with the Sandro Kraemer, Lino da Costa Pereira, and the other folks at KU Leuven on bringing their VUV spectrometer end station to FRIB to continue survey spectroscopy of different solid state hosts for Th-229.

My KITP talk is here. One embarrassing oversight on my part is not being aware that progress has already been made in the hyperfine structure of the Th-229 isomer state. (h/t Shane Wilkins)
