As of this week, there will be a weekly blog post titled “Weekly Win”. Each post will include information and a short blurb about something significantly exciting or remarkable which occurred in the lab that week, and each week the members of this group will vote for one of various nominations in order to determine a winner. This week, Roy Ready’s team, composed of Adam Powers, Daniel Coulter and Jake Huneau was voted the winner. The team is working on a collaboration project with Argonne National Lab in order to determine the permanent Electric Dipole Moment of Radium-225 (more information can be found here) Over a period of 6 days from 8/22 to 8/30, more than 1600 magnetization measurements were taken in the magnetically-shielded Prototype in an attempt to measure the magnetization of the EDM electrodes to high precision. In one run a precision of 1.5 pT (50 million times smaller than Earth’s field!) was achieved. “This win belongs to Adam Powers and Daniel Coulter, 2 undergrads who have done an incredible amount of work in a short amount of time.” says Roy Ready.
